There is never nothing happening

My extremely light week continues.

I went to Gotee on Wednesday, where I found out they were finally moving to their new offices in Franklin. I worked furiously on the master vault for 4 hours, at which time they shut down the server and I helped get things packed and marked. The move was going to take a couple days, so I was told not to come to work on Friday. Score.

On my way north on 65 I hit accident traffic; I went 3 miles in 45 minutes. Coincidentally, I was running late to make my appointment to look through the eight bedroom house off Nolensville. I made it over there and absolutely loved it. I'm taking Jon and Ryan over in an hour to have them look too and see what they think. I REALLY like it though...

Lost was almost like an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, making for a relatively entertaining episode, but it didn't really further the story at all. I guess it's an OK trade off.

Thursday classes were uneventful, and I spent the evening at a combination of Reverb, Jess and Kendra's watching an Office marathon, and watching Casino Royale/playing Farkle at Kurt and Tyler's. A good night all together.

Yesterday I did basically nothing for most of the day. Another personal growth convo was taken care of at 10 (down to 7 more). Matt came over and watched Children of Men with me in the afternoon, and then we all went to Buca de Beppo for Jess' birthday. Tons of fun, great food, a great dinner experience on the whole.

When the waitress brought us our bill, she had split it up and told us that it was going to be like $27.50 each. When she said that, the whole table got real quiet, and I don't think anyone breathed for a few minutes. I picked up the receipt and realized that everything had been put on our tab twice, and everyone calmed down real quick. It came out to $12.86 per person in the end, a much more agreeable sum.

After dinner a bunch of us went to see Peaceful Warrior, a movie about a male gymnast who fights back from a career-ending motorcycle accident with the help of a mysterious mentor and comes back better than he was before. Don't let that plot line fool you: I would not call this a good movie. I will say parts of it were tolerable, but the story and characters were not well developed. At all. The best part about this was it was free, so I guess it might have been worth it.

Now I'm at Reverb, and I just got done with a group project where we had to create a cue sheet for all the music in a movie, Pieces of April. It's nice to get paid to do homework, even if the movie was almost as bad as Peaceful Warrior.

I need to write my strategic paper this weekend, and I'm hoping I can bring myself to just sit down some time and knock it out. Odds of that happening before Monday night? 12:1. At best.

The tortoise and the hair

I got a haircut. Quinn was handing them out at our place, so I decided to go for it. I ended up having it cut shorter than it's been since I was in 4th grade. Amazingly, it didn't turn out too bad. I'll try and get a picture up soon.

In other news, I hate weathermen. Every last one of them. The chance of snow last night/this morning? 90%. The amount of snow we actually received: 0". Nothing. I so wanted a snow day today. And, much like the countless times I anticipated such an event in my years of public education, we got nothing.

Last night was my first adventure into the video production world. We shot the anti-piracy PSA over at Kurt and Tyler's place, and it turned out better than I could have hoped. Seriously, the lighting was great, the clothes were great, the actors we great, and we shot the whole thing in HD, which looked amazing! I'm so glad that we got that done, and I owe Kurt and Tyler so ridiculously much after this is all finished. I'll make sure anyone who wants to see can do so when it's edited together.

I've decided one of the most annoying things in the world, in my opinion, is girls sitting around talking about how there's no good guys in whatever town they happen to be in. And trust me girls, you may think that your town is different, and that the guys there are really just undateable, but your guys are the same. You just haven't figured out who the right one is for you. That guy may be in your town. He may be someplace else. Just please don't whine about it in public. It gets old, and you'll never get any of the good guys in your town because they'll avoid you like the plague.

I applied for the receptionist/office manager/online marketing position at Gotee on Monday. However, they need someone who can work full time right now, and I have class Tues/Thurs afternoons. Thus, I was shot down on first attempt at a real job. Never fear, I knew this was a long shot, so I'll keep trying.

Today is the first weekday of the New Year that I didn't run or play racquetball. I feel a little bad about it, but I'll get over it. Back at it tomorrow.

If you want to see a really sweet video, check out this one:

This was just finished by Tyler's brother, Toben Seymour, for The Willowz, and it's so dang sweet. They did the whole thing in stop motion with flashlights: none of the lines and drawings were added in post production. Seriously, play this video, you won't be sorry.

Beginning of the End

Today begins the last semester of my academic career.

Not that I actually had classes, mind you, but the semester did technically begin today. I spent my day at Gotee, getting reacquainted with how things work down there and discovering how things have changed. There are five people left who worked there a year ago, and one of them is leaving at the end of the month. Crazy. The new people seem real cool though, so the transition should be rather smooth.

I return to Reverb tonight. Oh joy! Oh rapture! I am apparently the inventory manager this semester or something like that, I'm not exactly sure. But that basically means that I get to tell them what they need to order, thus insuring that we don't end up without the big releases.

This Christmas Break was probably as perfect as I could have hoped. The first half was spent in MN, where I worked and hung out with my family. The only thing that could have made that better was more snow. The second half, back in Nashville, consisted of one of the truest stay-home vacation experiences ever. I have no regrets about how much or little I accomplished during the last two weeks. It's been incredibly refreshing.

I just realized that I have not mentioned how Children of Men turned out. Let me just say, you will be happy that you saw this movie, it is incredibly intense, well-made, and emotional. It's just great all around.

I've been watching some Grey's Anatomy this week with Jess, Kendra, and Julie. This is the first extended experience I've had with this show, and I can definitely see why people, particularly girls, can become addicted to it. It's extremely entertaining, and the characters and story-lines are well developed. Watching it though, I can't help but get frustrated with a lot of the characters from a guy's point of view, with complete jerks suddenly becoming charming and whatnot. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I can't get through an episode without getting frustrated with the female mindset.

But that's just me.

Is it Friday? Really?

It definitely does not feel like Friday. Much more of a Saturday feel, if anything.

My finals so far have been pretty predictable. The only possible exception is that my Intellectual Properties final was a bit more technical and specific than I anticipated, hence it was a bit harder than anticipated. I'm not worried though, so you shouldn't either.

Last night was a lot of fun, I went to Brown's Diner with Ben, Kendra, Wade, and Julie before my final and had a decent cheeseburger and good conversation. Then the IP final. Finally, Dave and Julie Hunt had college students over to hang out and have a study break, so Ryan and I went over a bit before 9 and we were the first ones there for the first bit. Somehow the topic of "Die Hard" came up, and I was forced to admit that I had never seen any of them. This just could not stand for Dave, so I saw Die Hard for the first time last night, and it was so much fun to sit there and read subtitles as more and more people came and the room got louder and louder, and laughing at the ridiculous dialog and crazy explosions and everything about it. Overall, a great time, I'm glad I went.

Today was... good. Yeah, I think that's the right word. I woke up around 9 and watched an episode of Alias from season 4 (I am now on disc 4). It has become much better and more interesting as the season has progressed. Then I got to talk to Italian Jess briefly before she headed off on another crazy Euro adventure or something like that. It was at this point that a decision needed to be made: I could work on my investments paper, which needed to happen at some point, or I could watch Die Hard 2: Die Harder, which Dave was kind enough to loan me last night (along with Die Hard With Avengeance). Obviously, I chose Die Hard. The second one was almost as entertaining as the first, the only thing missing was the great European accents.

I had a meeting with Sara at Gotee at 1, which went really well. We talked about their Grammy noms from yesterday (they had two as a label), and what worked for my schedule next semester. Then she said, "So when was the last time we gave you new music?" I mentioned Sonshine, and she started throwing CDs at me. When all was said and done, I walked away with 8 new albums, most of which should be excellent. I have been telling myself for months that I should get the House of Heroes album "Say No More," and it's bomb. Period. I was listening to it as I worked on my investments paper tonight. (I am done with 2 of 4 sections, and over half the work is done I think!)

Tomorrow will be great, with Reverb and writing in the morning and early afternoon, followed by cleaning the house and getting ready for the party at 7 tomorrow night that will be awesome. If you're around, come on over to Christmas at the Beech, it'll be loads of fun. And there'll be food. FREE food. And Home Alone. Can you pass on that? I doubt it.
